WAKESHOP VERDICT
Our take.
The Defender HF is one of the most specialised protection vests in the range. Rather than simply adding more foam, Ride Engine uses internal impact-shell technology in vulnerable areas to help protect the torso from foil points, board noses and hard impacts. The padding placement is designed around paddling and harness use, making it particularly convincing for serious foilers. If you're buying primarily for wakeboarding we'd choose a wake-specific vest instead, but for foiling the Defender HF is an excellent piece of protective equipment.

BEST FOR
Hydrofoiling, wing foiling, kite foiling, surf foiling and windsurf foiling, particularly for riders wanting targeted torso protection against foil and board strikes without interfering significantly with paddling or harness use.
×
NOT IDEAL FOR
Riders primarily looking for a certified life vest or conventional buoyancy aid, recreational users who don't need foil-specific impact protection, or wakeboarders who would be better served by a wake-focused vest with greater all-round torso flexibility.
WHY WE STOCK IT
Why it earns a place at WakeShop.
The Defender HF gives us a specialist protection option for riders exposed to risks that conventional wake and buoyancy vests aren't specifically designed around. Its internal impact-shell technology protects high-risk areas from foil and board strikes, while the carefully positioned padding allows comfortable paddling and integration with kite, wing and windsurf harnesses. For foilers in particular, it has a clear purpose in the range.

Why we'd choose it
Choose the Defender HF if impact protection is your priority, particularly for foiling. Its internal impact-shell technology provides targeted protection against foil and board strikes while the harness-compatible design keeps movement relatively unrestricted.
Choose the Empax V2 if you want a low-profile impact vest that combines 50N buoyancy with good impact protection and integrates cleanly with a kite or windsurf harness.
Choose the Space Mob if you want a wake-focused impact vest with a low-profile, rider-driven feel that prioritises mobility and freedom of movement over the extra bulk and features of a traditional buoyancy aid.
Choose the Love Nor Money if you want premium impact protection and technical construction without the restrictive feel of a close-fitting performance vest. Its relaxed fit and highly segmented foam make it particularly strong for progressive cable riding and hard landings.
